CULTURE DIVERSITY
Culture assimilation is very common within African countries Rwanda inclusive. This is mostly common in Youth and causes conflicts in the society we live in simply because those who assimilate another culture seem to appear, behave and think differently compared to others around them. And i can't deny that it slows down development due to difficulties in adopting what we are not used to and loss of our uniqueness. Therefore, H2H community shaping has managed to collect data from different youth in different communities purposely to overcome that challenges the community is facing. Lets pass through the summary below
Culture diversity
The world is moving so fast and people as well. Many countries are changing and developing each now and then which is good though.
Many of the African countries are showing a lot of progress and civilization is now the name to some African countries.
With this type of assimilation, many things are converted be it religions, gender roles, family roles and many others. This is what has happened to some countries especially African countries. One can say it's attached to neocolonialism and it's true though. The western countries are influencing the African countries mostly politically and some might end up loosing their own culture. And for sure a country without a culture is nothing.
Look at today's youth, they have completely lost it. They no longer have respect for their own culture, they don't know how to behave and be good children all in the name of freedom of speech. They think because all those western kids behave like that it will suit them. Fellow youth I would like to remind you that they have their own ways of understanding things and handling things so does you. If you are not confident with what represents you, I can't blame you if you end up liking and doing what's not yours.but you will regret it once people start accusing you of being what you are not, that time when they will ask you where you come from or define what you are and you won't be able to explain. You will realise that you've been fooled knowing that you came to really understand other people's culture so well but you don't have an idea of what your own is like. It's a shame right? Yes I accept people change and being civilized is no crime at all. But again civilization and development doesn't mean loosing your own morals and culture. It doesn't mean forgetting where you came from. Preserving your culture will not stop you from developing. Many developed countries still stick on their cultures and guess what! people pay money for culture tourism, and if only you knew how expensive that is. Why not ask yourself why they do so? It's because one's culture is precious and it's what makes him unique.
What's culture in the first place? Culture is the attitude, values, morals, the goals and customs shared by a society. Culture is the way of life or the way people do things. so all of us have that and it will be so sad if you end up adopting and being defined by other people's cultures.
A lot of things are influencing the African youth and leading them to behave like westerners. Movies, songs, social media schools and they think that all that they see that looks good on other people or communities will look good on them. Well that's a misconception my friend. You are just fooling yourself. It looks good on them because it's theirs not yours. You can't fit in someone else's shoes and if you do, they will still say, look she is wearing someone's shoes and they will laugh at you that you will be ashamed of yourself.
Am not telling you to put on rags or go hunt lions and tigers to get skin to wear. No, don't get me wrong, but whatever you do, talk remember your morals and your values as well. Cause people will judge you by your actions and whatever you do or say to convince your mind you will never stop people from talking and that will affect you in one way or another.
Development can happen and it happens but it's not there to allow you give up your morals and another thing, your morals aren't a price for development and civilization, not at all. As professor Chinua Achebe said"Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck where you do not belong”. And it's so true. It's better you stay where you belong and where you understand very well. My dear these thoughts of thinking that the white man is the one beautiful, excellent, intelligent and perfect while the other one is Savage, ugly and stupid is so so antiquated.
So dear one, fellow youth your ways and morals are not wrong be proud of them and confident. Let the outsiders envy how you treasure your culture and see how amazing and beautiful you will look. A country will develop so well while preserving their culture and that's what development means to me. Just being the better you.
